Shoe in
here is an illustration of my absolute favorite shoes right now, the penpal from Rachel Comey at Petulia's Folly. I am so in love that I ordered a pair of the sister shoes, the Bookmark, adorned with cute little tassles.

Mad for Mad Men

Ok last night's episode of Mad Men was so good! Episode after episode, this show has not let me down. I've been poking around the Mad Men website and really love the fashion file, which discusses the costumes and a much of the symbolism behind it.
Mary Ellen Mark

months ago, Vice Magazine had a photography issue featuring one of my all time favorite artists, Mary Ellen Mark. Here is what they had to day about my #2 favorite photo by her. (I can never seem to find my favorite)
Vice:I especially love the picture of Tiny on Halloween...
MEM:..its almost like a fashion picture, but its real
Tiny was a poor teenage runaway from Seattle, but I always thought she looked absolutely stunning in this image

Falling For You
today was the perfect fall day, except I couldn't stop thinking about the future instead of living in the moment, and my boyfriend has too much studying to do to play in the leaves
I guess I'll keep dreaming

She's A Rainbow

I have tons and tons of materials in my apartment, so I thought why not try and make things and sell it on Etsy. I came up with this necklace that I am so in love with I might just have to keep it myself!

Put a cork in it

Aloha! I know its been a while. I guess I've been lazy and unispired... well today, I found something truely exciting! These amazing mid century cork and chrome lamps. I don't have a photo of the ones I bought yet, but I googled extensively to make sure I got a good deal, and I am pretty sure I got them for at least $75 cheaper than the average. Plus, one of them is this super tall floor lamp which has an amazing svelt shape to it.

Summer '99
my friend, Melissa, is going away to Berlin for a little while (lucky Melissa!). We went to her house tonight for a small going away gathering. Look how clever we got with the sparklers! It took quite some orchestrating, and even though it was supposed to say Summer '09 not '99...I still think it was a pretty cool shot!
Next weekend we'll all be saying goodbye to summer '09! Hope it was a good one!

Watch Out
I am so in love with Etten Eller jewelry that when I stumbled across these vintage watch parts on Etsy, I had to have them for myself. Though I wish I could afford all of the Etten Eller pieces, I think I'll have to change it up a little and make a bunch of cheapie trinkets for my friend.

Lazy Days
couldn't stick around NYC today cause it was way too hot & humid. nothing is worse than being in the subway on a day like today. all I could think about was being in my air conditioned room in Philly.

then I remembered summer days when I was a kid...
then I remembered summer days when I was a kid...
climbing trees, playing in the woods, eating popsicles, spitting out watermelon seeds to see who's went the furthest, picking wild berries and honeysuckle, swimming in my neighbor's pool 'till our lips turned purple.
we dreaded being called inside for dinner.
afterwords we would catch fireflies in jars and play capture the flag. on special nights like this one, we got to roast marshmallows over the grill.
if I could only go back...

Smelly Belle

Lately I've been thinking about making my old perfume bottles into something interesting. It turns out Marcel Duchamp beat me me to it. "Belle Haleine -Eau de Voilette" features a photo by Man Ray of Duchamp in drag. Recently, it was expected to bring about 1.5 million at auction, but went for a fetching 11.5 million!

August
Can you believe its already August? Seems like many of my favorite bloggers have been taking a vacation, including myself. Well, I have some eye candy for you... random objects from inside my apartment.
getting sick of a barren wall in the bedroom; finally found a use for these metallic trims
portrait of moi by Kris Chau. muslin boxes.
silver tray found at recent trip to thrift store ($2). faux animal skull found at Home Goods.
unfinished soft sculpture swan (or white goos as scott says) to hang from my 20ft ceiling
tasted as pretty as they looked ;0
