Twiggy

I was so obsessed with Twiggy as a middle schooler; she was what made me want to become a fashion designer.  At the time, I remember talking to my guidance counselor and being to embarassed to say that was what I wanted to do when I grew up because I thought it wasn't intellectual enough...I told him instead that I wanted to be an artist.
Anyway, it was about the time when I started to learn what the internet was, and I had some Twiggy fan site bookmarked and would just look at it all the time (the theme music was the Beatles "and your bird can sing").  I bought some Twiggy stuff off of ebay, including this original fan magazine

i'm sure my hair stylist loved it when I brought him this how to guide on Twiggy's haircut. I wanted mine exactly like hers.

Will the Real Twiggy Please Stand Up

my previous post was written because I saw this image from Laia's blog
I thought, "Hey, I've seen that before!"

CatSpring

ok I honestly wasn't into the whole MeowMiu, Year of the Cat trend as forcasted by Laia .  I've never been a cat person and just didn't get it.
that was until Joey showed up...

we are not sure what his story is, but he started hanging out by our back door and was immediately cuddly and friendly.  I noticed he was a bit chubby and when we finally got him a little box, we discovered he was already trained... we think he might have another home in the neighborhood.
I have so much love for this cat and though he hasn't let us take him in (he loves the great outdoors as much as his free kitty chow and tummy rubs) I think I understand what it means to love a cat.

I love this beautiful photo by Tracey Emin of her cat, Docket, and I really could relate to her love for him

also, here are Tracey Emin's directions for your very own cat quilt here
oh and I love my friend McKenzie's blog of cats sitting in windows
and dreamcats, too... my friend, Lizzy's pretty kitty has a cameo

Pants Dance

I love short summer dresses and yearn to wear them all season long.  Alas, I am cursed with cankles, so aside from the occasional maxi dress, I am subjected to wearing pants.
ugh...I've been searching hi and low for the perfect pant.  Something comfy and cool (both figuratively and literally); no jeans (I have way to many!)
Anyone have some suggestions?  Here are some I like...

comfy silk trouser from creatures of comfort

Hope Mr. Trousers also from CoC

I got these babies at Petulia's Folly (pic fro CoC)....they look great tucked into lace up boots
the terry is SUPER soft...I never want to take them off.  this dress in the same fabric is amazing (if only I had her legs)
available at Petulia's Folly

I was in LOVE with these matte jersey curator pants from J.Crew
they seemed like a dream come true.  Until I tried them on in the store and they were too tight on my cankles :(

these are really cute, thought! (and affordable to boot!)

Puttin on Tights

I love this drawing by kris chau
I always feel so funny puttin' on tights...its such an awkward funny fun thing that only a girl can understand
this really captures a special moment for me
a moment that I have all to myself, gettin' dressed in the morning, almost feeling like i'm little and playing dress up
and remembering when i was little, hanging out with my mom & watching how she scrunched up each leg before getting them over her foot
so I bought a print! and if you know what I mean about puttin' on tights you can buy it, too...
here
don't you just love chau?

Dennis Severs' House

have you ever heard of the Dennis Severs' House in Spitafeilds, London? Severs refurbished the ten rooms of his house, each in a different historic style, mainly from the 18th and 19th centuries. The rooms are arranged as if they are in use and the fictitious Jervis family has only just left. Displays consist of items such as half-eaten bread and different smells and background sounds for each room. It is meant to be a sort of still life work of art allowing visitors to use their imagination to transport themselves into another time. The motto of the house is Aut Visum Aut Non!: 'You Either See it or you don't'. I definitely won't miss this the next time I visit London.

Help Haiti

The crisis in Haiti hits close to home.  My amazing mother had been planning to go to Haiti for months, and her trip was scheduled a few days after the earthquake hit.  The hospital she was to stay in crumbled; we are so lucky she was not there.
There is probably no place on earth that was less prepared for such a major disaster than Haiti.  If you can give anything, please do.  Our collective effort can provide some of the much needed relief in a time of desperation.

I have always been a fan of Pyrrha.  The are donating $40 from each sale of this Cherub talisman to Haitian relief efforts.  The french inscription reads "Hope Remains Even in the Storm"

I am old

chloe
i've been flipping through my tear library for a little project I am working on, and thought what a perfect point of inspiration a certain Chloe dress was.  I distinctly remember it being designed under the direction of Stella McCartney, so I went on style.com to look at the entire collection.
What year was that? What? Pheobe Philo took over in 2002?... it seemed like only yesterday Stella left... I had to go back to Spring 2000 to find the dress....has it really been a decade?
I've loved you so long.
I can't find a web image of the dress I am referencing, but you might know what I am talking about by this similar looking top

Live For a Day

Months ago, Lizz posted about Miss Pettigrew lives for a day, a film I managed to never hear about when it was out in theatres.  It finally arrived from netflixs and was really quite charming! As Lizz points out, the set design was awesome, not to mention some pretty costumes, too! Lately, I have really been favoring the vintage look again, with a particular fondness for that Old Hollywood look.
PS don't you just love Frances McDormand?!

Happy New Year!

In the new year, I am looking forward to receiving this Rachel Comey Horticulturalist Jacket along with the other deliveries of the new decade.

It is hard to say what the 2000s were all about (hipsters, Boho chic, Model Off Duty are only a few trends that come to mind), but I loved looking at these images of Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen, who's personal style has definitely evolved over the past ten years.  So many people love(d) to hate them at least at first, but I always thought they were pretty much ahead of the rest, especially Mary Kate.

I watched the Black Dahlia on Netflix despite several warnings. It wasn't that bad, but perhaps I was just paying attention to the costumes, hair, makeup, and set design. Obviously, I had a hard time editing. Scarlett was a starlette! Time to pull out my red lipstick again. And I wouldn't mind some high waisted trousers with a cardi, perfectly coifed hair, vintage lingerie, and an assortment of detailed hats
